I am originally from Brazil and received my PhD in 2020 at Federal University of São Paulo. My graduate studies were focused on the impact of sleep disturbances over immunity, which sparked my interest in understanding the complex interaction between the immune and nervous systems. I joined the Talbot lab in Winter 2022 to officially start my life as a postdoc. Here, I study the intersection between metabolism, the immune system, and the nervous system by evaluating the effects of feeding behavior on general immunity. When not in the lab, I enjoy cooking (ask about my new super fancy Kitchen Aid mixer), playing PS5, traveling and hiking.

  • Allie Cheney

    Postdoctoral Research Fellow

    acheney@fredhutch.org

I received my PhD in Biochemistry at Montana State University in Bozeman. Originally from Washington state, I am excited to be back in the PNW with my husband, Kyle, our son, Ewan, and our two basenjis, Tori and Eiger. I specialize in metabolism, neuroimmunology, and the gut-brain axis. I am investigating the cellular circuits that enable the enteric nervous system to detect and discriminate microbial/metabolic signals and in turn regulate intestinal immune responses. Outside of the lab you can find me hiking, downhill skiing, fishing, and camping.

  • Hana Morris

    Bioinformatics Analyst I

    hmorris@fredhutch.org

I grew up in Washington and received my BS in Bioengineering from UW. I've always been drawn to math, science, and puzzles, and bioinformatics has provided me an outlet to combine all those interests. I'm super excited to use computational tools to help elucidate the ways in which our gut maintains a balance between nutrient absorption and intestinal immunity. I plan to pursue a PhD in genomics (and hopefully stick around Washington)! Outside of work you can find me ski touring, trail running, climbing, and mountaineering.

    Lab Aide

    vxiao@fredhutch.org

Hi, my name is Vince Xiao and I am currently a junior at the University of Washington studying Biology and Physiology. I aspire to go into the medical field, but I don't know quite yet what aspect of the field I want to go into. I like to run, sleep, and eat lots of fruit in my free time.

  • Brooke Ford

    Research Administrator

I was born and raised in the greater Seattle area! I went to UW for my BS in Chemistry and Biochemistry. I came to the Fred Hutch in 2019, where I worked as a technician in Basic Sciences. In 2021, I transitioned out of the lab and into administration! I love my role as a RA and am so happy I have the ability to still be close to science and support research labs. When I am not working, you can find me on walks with dog, trying new restaurants, reading a book, or snowboarding!
